The University of Arizona (or the U of A or just “The U”) is one of the pride and joys of Tucson. Established in 1885, it has grown to include advanced programs of study to include aerospace and medical research to communications and the arts.
Dormitory student housing is available but fills up quickly. Many students rent homes, condos or apartments in the neighborhoods nearby. Mini dorms are also available in different neighborhoods like Jefferson Park.
If you are thinking about purchasing a condo or home for your U of A student, you are not alone in that thinking. Many parents go that route and then hold onto the property as an investment after their student graduates – with an attractive location close to campus, many owners are able to get full-year leases or charge a bit more per month for an “academic year” lease.
The Neighborhoods
The University is surrounded by historic neighborhoods: Sam Hughes to the east, Rincon Heights to the south, Pie Allen to the southwest, West University to the west, Feldmans to the northwest, North University and Jefferson Park to the north and Blenman/Elm to the northeast.
